Limitations

To ensure stability of operations and performance for every user, SCS3 has limitations.

The following table describes them in more details:

Item per SCS3 endpoint Default Maximum - configurable in the Portal Maximum - contact support
S3 quota across all buckets (TiB) 5 10 Undefined. Depends on capacity.
Number of buckets per project* 100 100 1000
Max number of objects per bucket (millions)* 10 10 50

The default value is set upon the SCS3 instance creation. User may increase each item up to the maximum value on their own via the Switch Cloud Portal. Additionally, in some case, it may be acceptable to further grow the maximum value. Please contact support if this is needed.

Note

Items marked with a * are not enforced or configurable via the Portal yet.
However, please do try to remain within the limits to ease transition in the future.

Average Object Size

It must be emphasised that the average object size is very important for the stability of SCS3 HDD clusters.
The bigger is the average object size, the more stable the service will be.

Important

Switch strongly recommends to configure workloads on SCS3 HDD clusters so the average object size would be at least 512kB+ big.
A bigger average size would be even better when possible.
